The town will be painted pink for the fifth time on February 26 to raise funds for the Breast Cancer Network of Strength. The renowned Tickled Pink is hosted by Jodi Fyfe who began a partnership with the Breast Cancer Network of Strength in 2004, and each year has taken new strides to raise money for the charity. “I am thrilled to be celebrating our fifth event and that Tickled Pink has continued to be such a success,” said Jodi Fyfe. “It has not only been established as a huge fundraiser, but also as a chic event for Chicagoans to have fun all for a great cause.” It all began when Fyfe lost her cousin in February 2004 to a seven year battle with breast cancer. In honor of her, Fyfe began a team to participate in Y-ME RACE Against Breast Cancer. In their first race in 2004, Fyfe’s team named “Carrie’s Crusade”, consisted of 171 members and raised over $50,000. In recognition of Fyfe’s efforts, the Breast Cancer Network of Strength asked her to chair the RACE in 2005 particularly focusing on increasing corporate support. Over the past five years the Tickled Pink event has continued to grow and bring Chicagoans together for a good cause in a fun and fashionable way. To date Tickled Pink and Fyfe’s efforts have raised an astonishing $150,000 for the Breast Cancer Network of Strength. Last year Tickled Pink returned after one year and began a partnership with Billy Dec’s The Underground to host party goers. “When it is all cold and white outside The Underground helps Tickled Pink make a cold night in February sizzle,” said Fyfe. “Every year we look forward to seeing returning Tickled Pink guests faces and also meeting new Chicagoans who have embraced Tickled Pink and our fundraising efforts.” At the event, guests walk the pink carpet and mix and mingle with celebrity guests. Party-goers will also have the opportunity to dine on a varity of hors d'oeuvres of Bacon Wrapped Grissini to Crab Cakes with Yuzu Aioli, and late night munchies from McDonald’s and Home Run Inn Pizza. About Tickled Pink In February 2004, Carrie Kenney lost her seven year battle with breast cancer at the age of 35. One year later, her cousin, Jodi Fyfe gathered a group of close friends and colleagues to start Tickled Pink Chicago in honor of Carrie. Carrie was a fun-loving, young woman who was diagnosed at the age of 27 and looked to Y-ME National Breast Cancer Organization (now the Breast Cancer Network of Strength) for information. She found answers to her questions but also found unwavering support from women who had also battled breast cancer and could relate to her experience first hand. After Carrie's death at the tragically young age of 35, Jodi was determined to make a contribution to the organization that had given so much to her cousin when she needed it most. Jodi began by forming a team for the 2004 Y-ME race but she wanted to find another way to remember the vibrant, fun-loving person who inspired her so much…Tickled Pink Chicago was born! In February 2005, Tickled Pink Chicago threw its first party and raised $35,000! Every year the party and team of individuals that came together to ensure no one has to face breast cancer alone has grown. For more information, please visit www.tickledpinkchicago.com. |
