George the Salon has been one of the city's best hidden gem, but not anymore!
These days everyone is talking about this fantastic salon with its fresh looks and friendly, talented staff. Owned by The Spa at Harpo Studios' stylist George Gonzalez, the salon is located next to all the Hubbard Street nightlife
George is as passionate about philanthropy and women's rights as he is about style. On Monday March 7th, George opened his doors and heart to the On Your Feet Foundation (OYFF) by donating his salon services and space to raise money for this nonprofit 501c3 organization. The OYFF is dedicated to providing personal support to birthparents to help them get "back on their feet" after making an adoption plan for their child. This small not for profit foundation gained national recognition after one of their retreats (a weekend in Michigan City, Indiana, run by birthmothers for birthmothers) was featured on the MTV TV series "Teen Mom". Attendees enjoyed haircuts, color, and styling sessions with George-The Salon's top stylists by making a $100 donation for each service. $5,700 was raised during this 3-hour charity fundraiser, a milestone George Gonzalez was honored to reach
George has been a hair stylist for 19 years and has styled many high-profile locks including those of Oprah Winfrey's Harpo staff. He has played a key role in the numerous make-over pieces Oprah has done over the years. It's apparent from the moment you meet George that while he is unquestionably adept at helping women feel great about the way they look, it goes much deeper than that.
